Dr. Satang Nabaneh is an award-winning Gambian legal scholar and human rights practitioner with a deep commitment to advancing women's rights. As the Director of Programs and Research Professor of Law at the University of Dayton Human Rights Center, she shapes impactful initiatives and conducts cutting-edge research focused on gender equality and its intersections with racial, ethnic, and other forms of oppression.
Dr. Nabaneh’s leadership is evident in her work with organizations such as the Female Lawyers Association-Gambia (FLAG) and as a co-founder of Think Young Women (TYW), demonstrating her dedication to empowering women and fostering the next generation of female leaders. Her expertise has also informed policy and practice through her service as the Legal Adviser to the African Union’s Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Women in Africa.
Recognized for her insightful analysis and impactful contributions, Dr. Nabaneh has served as a consultant to INGOs, African governments, and civil society. Her thought leadership has been featured in esteemed media outlets, including The New York Times, Reuters, and Time.
